Democrats and advocates fighting to get driver’s licenses for young immigrants granted “deferred action” status under a federal program got an opportunity to make their case at the state Legislature Thursday during a public hearing and media conference, but their efforts are not expected to get far.The House Transportation Committee heard testimony on House Bill 2032, an unexpected move considering the bill's Democratic sponsorship, the fact that Republican Gov. Jan Brewer has repeatedly made clear her opposition to granting licenses to this immigrant population, and the Republican-led Legislature’s general position on immigration issues in recent years.

CBP, ICE agents express frustration with leadership
Written by ADI News Services Thursday, 14 February 2013 03:50
Border patrol agents met with Arizona Governor Brewer this week and said the meeting was “very productive and Governor Brewer listened attentively to what we had to say.” They “pointed out some serious flaws with CBP’s attempts to convince the American people that the border is secure.”The agents “had the opportunity to relay personal experiences that we’ve had as Border Patrol agents, such as mandatory adherence to overly restrictive policies that often handcuff us and how the last round of amnesty (IRCA 1986) affected our jobs, illegal entries and overall border security,” and invited the Governor to include them in any groups or committees that might be tasked with helping to certify that the border is “secure”.

It seems so reasonable. In the minds of many, "universal background checks" for firearms transactions sounds like a good idea.
But is it really? No.
Democrats bringing illegal immigrants as guests to State of the Union
Written by dailycaller.com Wednesday, 13 February 2013 05:20
WASHINGTON — A number of Democrats, including First Lady Michelle Obama, are bringing illegal immigrants as guests to the State Of The Union on Tuesday. But a spokeswoman with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency declined to comment to The Daily Caller on Tuesday about whether the agency approves of this occurring at the Capitol, where Obama is set to give his annual address on Tuesday night.
“I don’t have any comment for you on this,” Gillian Christensen, a spokeswoman with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said after TheDC inquired whether the agency was aware of this and whether it was possible the guests could be arrested.

Border Security
Written by AZBDNews3 Saturday, 09 February 2013 15:58
Canada Free Press;
Besides President Barack Obama’s executive actions regarding illegal aliens and U.S. immigration policy, without much
notice by the GOP and news organizations, drastic reductions are expected within the Department of Homeland Security’s
immigration enforcement-related bureaus, said a top protective intelligence and assessment specialist on Monday.
“Required budget reductions for the DHS [directorates] will seriously undo much of the progress made over the past few
years to secure our borders” said Dr. Lyle J. Rapacki, a consultant at Behavioral Analysis and Threat Assessment.
Dr. Rapacki claims there also will be a noticeable negative impact on aviation and maritime safety and security as well as
an increase in potential infrastructure vulnerability. The budget reductions will also hamper disaster response time, and
totally eliminate cyber security infrastructure advances made in the last couple of years, he added.
Over 24,500 jobs associated with Homeland Security, Border Patrol, Customs and Immigration will be lost, said Dr. Rapacki.
More than 3,000 Border Patrol agent positions will be lost, a reduction to below FY 2009 levels which will leave about
17,900 agents, claims Rapacki.
In addition, up to 3,400 Customs and Border Patrol personnel will be cut. Besides a negative impact on national security,
this reduction will significantly increase wait times at our nation’s ports of entry.
The important Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will lose more than 930 special agents in the next DHS budget. “A
reduction of this size will significantly impact efforts to investigate crimes involving terrorism, transnational threats,
especially from cartels, and international child pornography,” Dr. Rapacki warns.
ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operation will be downsized by more than 800 men and women who are responsible for the
deportation of criminal aliens.
“Such significant reductions will result in even poorer removal statistics of criminal aliens from our nation,” said former
intelligence officer and police detective Mike Snopes.
Dr Rapacki noted:
”[On Jan. 24, 2013] I informed members of the Arizona State Senate Committee on Public Safety and Border Security of the
decision made by Obama to remove all radar operating along the southern Border of Arizona which will be fully implemented
in March. Likewise, Obama has ordered the downsizing of Border Patrol by 3,200-agents. These two decisions are alarming for
obvious reasons leaving the State of Arizona in potentially a very precarious position with regards to the safety and
welfare of the citizens. In my discussion with the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Safety and Border Security, I
mentioned that a potential “State of State Emergency” might be unfolding, and deliberate steps might have to be taken by
the State of Arizona to protect its’ own sovereignty and welfare.”

Gun Control Bill With Bipartisan Support Unveiled In House
Written by huffingtonpost.com Thursday, 07 February 2013 04:18
AZBDNews Note: This bill would help prosecute gun traffickers and straw purchasers. Gun trafficking, as in Fast and Furious?
WASHINGTON -- House lawmakers on Tuesday unveiled their first bipartisan bill targeting gun violence in this Congress: a measure to make firearms trafficking a federal crime.
During a press event, the bill's sponsors -- Reps. Patrick Meehan (R-Pa.), Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), Scott Rigell (R-Va.) and Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) -- said their legislation would create a single section of federal code to give law enforcement the ability to prosecute gun traffickers. It would also impose up to 20 years in jail for "straw purchasers," or those who buy guns for people prohibited from buying them on their own. Their measure is among the recommendations included in the gun violence package put forward last month by President Barack Obama.

Rep. John Conyers: Illegal Aliens ‘Are Not Illegal’, They Are “Out of Status”
Written by freedomoutpost.com Thursday, 07 February 2013 02:24
Rep. John Conyers, who was elected his first term in 1965, and is the 2nd most senior representative of the House, stated his acceptance of illegal aliens in the US while speaking at a hearing on immigration policy in the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.“I hope no one uses the term ‘illegal immigrants’ here today. Our citizens are not– our….the people in this country are not ‘illegal’. They are ‘out of status’. They are ‘new Americans that are immigrants’, and I think that we can forge a path to citizenship that will be able to pass muster.”
Conyers is the same brilliant individual who mocked elected officials to actually read the bills they have before them. “I love these members, they get up and say, ‘Read the bill. What good is reading the bill if it’s 1,000 pages, and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?”

DHS’s Napolitano says border remains secure, GAO says not really
Written by examiner.com Wednesday, 06 February 2013 03:51
In what’s expected to be a rubber stamp tour, Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano, told a group of reporters in San Diego that the border is secure. “I just finished a helicopter tour of the border, followed by a roundtable with local law enforcement… We are committed to making sure that this sector as well as the entire southwest border remains secure.”Despite the Secretary’s rosy border security portrait, a fact she neglected to disclose is Border Patrol’s apprehension numbers rose 9 percent in 2012. While the PEW Research Center has reported illegal immigration has slowed, coinciding with the sluggish U.S. economy, another figure most reports fail to highlight is Border Patrol only apprehends 60 percent of illegal aliens crossing into America, allowing 40 percent to escape detection.

Why immigration reform in 1986 fell short
Written by washingtonpost.com Wednesday, 06 February 2013 03:49
When Ronald Reagan signed a comprehensive immigration overhaul in 1986, he confidently predicted: “Future generations of Americans will be thankful for our efforts to humanely regain control of our borders and thereby preserve the value of one of the most sacred possessions of our people — American citizenship.”More than a quarter-century later, however, that law has not turned out to be the triumph that Reagan envisioned. Instead, those on both sides of the immigration debate see it as a cautionary lesson.

Schumer: Legalizing Illegal immigrants won’t be stopped by border security needs
Written by http://dailycaller.com Saturday, 02 February 2013 02:12
New York Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer said securing the nation’s borders should not be used as “a barrier” to giving illegal immigrants living in the U.S. a pathway to citizenship.
“We want the border to be secure. It’s more secure than it was several years ago, but it has a ways to go. And different sectors need different types of security. It’s a lot different having security in the Tucson sector than off the stretch in Texas, which is bounded by the Rio Grande,” Schumer said on Thursday.

Maricopa County Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio told a local radio host the federal government is “going to have problem” if they expect him to confiscate guns from private citizens.

Vast Majority of Gun Owners Would Defy Ban, Poll Shows
Written by thenewamerican.com Friday, 01 February 2013 03:32
If the government were to pass an unconstitutional law purporting to ban firearms, two thirds of Americans with guns in their household say they would defy the lawless legislation and refuse to comply, according to a recent poll conducted by Fox News. Even the majority of Democrat and liberal gun owners would refuse to surrender their weapons, the survey revealed. Most Americans also believe that more guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens — not gun bans — would help reduce crime. The Fox poll interviewed more than 1,000 registered voters in mid-January on a wide range of issues, most of which were related to firearms and the Second Amendment. According to the results, more than half of all respondents said there was at least one gun in their household — and the numbers have been steadily rising over previous years. Another five percent did not know whether there were guns in their home, or they were not willing to answer the question.
