Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., had a warm meeting with Obama for America Organizing for Action volunteers in Arizona, as the senator and the members of President Obama’s former campaign apparatus thanked each other for their alliance in support of Obama’s desired gun legislation.

“The speakers commended Senator McCain for showing leadership on this issue, and made it clear that we’re still hopeful that, with his help and support, we will get a bipartisan law to protect our country and our local community,” OFA’s Erin Kelly wrote in a blog post today. “We were shocked and excited to see Senator McCain himself, who had been driving by his office on his way home and had seen the thank-you signs. The senator had pulled over to the side of the road to thank his constituents for our support.”

But you will find a clothing line filled with carpet shoes he says drug smugglers wear to cover their tracks, along with a pile of backpacks and blankets, and more than 400 black water jugs.

They are all items Duncan has found over the last year and a half, while hiking through his beloved desert. "There are millions of backpacks and blankets," Duncan says. "I've been out here 48 years and I can't see half my desert anymore."

During her testimony on the “Gang of Eight” immigration bill before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano declared that she, President Barack Obama and other political officials at the top of this administration have the authority to decide which laws to enforce, and which ones to ignore.

Napolitano made the declaration in an exchange with Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) when he was questioning her on how Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have alleged that political officials in the Obama administration, including her, have blocked them from enforcing the law.

Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz said Thursday that the Department of Homeland Security is using roughly 1,000 rounds of ammunition more per person than the U.S. Army, as he and other lawmakers sharply questioned DHS officials on their "massive" bullet buys.

"It is entirely ... inexplicable why the Department of Homeland Security needs so much ammunition," Chaffetz, R-Utah, said at a hearing.

The hearing itself was unusual, as questions about the department's ammunition purchases until recently had bubbled largely under the radar -- on blogs and in the occasional news article. But as the Department of Homeland Security found itself publicly defending the purchases, lawmakers gradually showed more interest in the issue.

An independent government watchdog agency is investigating allegations that President Obama's nominee to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives retaliated against employees for whistle-blowing, FoxNews.com has learned.  

The allegations against B. Todd Jones, a Minnesota federal prosecutor who also is serving as acting director of the ATF while his nomination is pending, include claims that he mismanaged the prosecutor's office and presided over a "climate of fear." Specifically, he was accused of retaliating against whistle-blowing with "a suspension and a lowered performance appraisal."

Organizing for Action, the activist group that grew out of President Obama’s 2012 campaign, plans what it calls a “major day of action” next month to gather support for the bipartisan Gang of Eight comprehensive immigration reform bill.

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents rescued three people trapped in the trunk of a burning car Saturday

night. 

A Casa Grande Station agent working near Federal Route 15 observed a suspicious vehicle traveling northbound, according to

officials with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. As the agent initiated a traffic stop, the vehicle suddenly stopped

and burst into flames.

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul said Monday that immigration reform should not go forward until the national security weaknesses exposed by the Boston Marathon bombing are addressed.

In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, the Republican Senator urged that the bombing — and the fact that the two alleged bombers were immigrants to the United States — be taken into account as the Senate begins the process of considering the Gang of Eight immigration reform bill.

Here is how Rubio explained the powerful border-enforcing mechanism in his bill on "Fox News Sunday," which he denied was merely a meaningless goal:

"Basically, Homeland Security will have five years to meet that goal. If after five years, Homeland Security has not met that number, it will trigger the Border Commission, who will then take over this issue for them."

So the water torture awaiting the Department of Homeland Security if it fails to secure the border is ... ANOTHER GOVERNMENT COMMISSION WILL BE CREATED! Take that, Homeland Security! Ha -- we have you now!

AZBD Note: McCain supports gun control and he flip flopped yet again on immigration from "build the dang fence" to "come on down to the price is right for citizenship" amnesty program. It's amazing that it has taken this long for the people of AZ to wake up.

 

PHOENIX (AP) - A new poll shows support among Arizonans for Sen. John McCain has dropped to its lowest level in 21 years and 67 percent believe it is time for a new senator.
  
The Republican has been in Congress since 1983 and a Senator since 1987. He was defeated for president by Barack Obama in 2008 and has since focused on issues like immigration, defense and diplomacy.
  
The Rocky Mountain Poll from the Phoenix-based Behavioral Research Institute released Tuesday shows just 26 percent of respondents gave McCain an excellent or good job rating while 36 percent said he was doing a poor or very poor job.

Immigration reform’s hidden border-crossing charge

If the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has its way, Congress may soon authorize the study of a fee to be collected at all land crossings with Canada and Mexico.

The contentious issue was buried deep within the department’s proposed 2014 budget, released last week by DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano. It may have gone relatively unnoticed if U.S. Rep. Brian Higgins, D-N.Y., hadn’t sounded the alarm late Friday.

Higgins, who’s a member of the House Committees on Homeland Security and Foreign Affairs and serves on the U.S.-Canada Inter-Parliamentary Group, said he would "fight to put the breaks on this shortsighted fee."

Border Patrol reviewing rollover that killed 5

TUCSON - Border Patrol is investigating to make sure agents followed procedures after a deadly rollover, according to Customs and Border Protection Public Affairs Manager Victor Brabble.

A Chevy Tahoe packed with 20 people rolled, killing 5, Saturday night near Interstate 10 and State Route 83.

All of the people inside were from Guatemala or Mexico, and most did not have identification, according to Arizona Department of Public Safety Media Relations Manager Bart Graves.

people who enter the U.S. illegally from Mexico: dusty footprints, torn cobwebs, broken twigs, overturned pebbles.

It's a skill he has sharpened over the last 16 years in the craggy, shrub-covered mountains east of San Diego and one that

is taking on new importance as gauging border security has emerged as a potential stumbling block to an overhaul of the

U.S. immigration system.

With lawmakers demanding more measures of border security and assurances that massive spending increases on enforcement

yield results, Gordon's skill, known as "sign-cutting," will likely get greater focus because it is the Border Patrol's

dominant technique to count those who escape capture.

The West Virginia eighth-grader who was suspended and, astonishingly, arrested last week after he refused to remove a t-shirt supporting the National Rifle Association returned to school on Monday.
 
In a move The Daily Caller can only characterize as courageous, 14-year-old Jared Marcum returned to Logan Middle School in Logan County, West Va., wearing exactly the same shirt, which depicts a hunting rifle with the statement “protect your right.”
